6 Ways Terrazzo is Making a New Look for Itself

I’m gonna say it. I never really liked Terrazzo. It always felt flat, masquerading around the nineties like it never really belonged. But now it’s back with a whole new do’ and it’s incredible. It’s dynamic, it’s colorful, it’s hip, and it’s versatile. It’s also BOLD.

Let’s be real… when you think of terrazzo in your home, do the dated 90s versions come to mind first?? You know what I’m talking about...

This is what I think of terrazzo historically. Just sort of there and a bit bland.

Terrazzo from the Hollywood walk of fame; I do like the stars!

If you compare these to the terrazzo we’re seeing today, I think you’ll agree that terrazzo has gotten… FUN!!

This month, I can’t resist sharing 6 new ways terrazzo is making an impressive splash in modern-day homes. Because who couldn’t use a dash of joy and fun at home right now?? Exactly.

1. Terrazzo Flooring

PRETTY! I love the play on scale! Classic colors, interesting shapes and details, and completely creative! (source)

2. Terrazzo Shower Tiles

3. Terrazzo Tables

4. Terrazzo Basin / Sink

Love, love, love this. One of the neatest parts of terrazzo is the ability to pick a color from the stones (like this rosy blush) and play it up in the wall color and decor for a harmonious look. (source)

5. Terrazzo Countertops

It doesn’t have to be bold - that’s the beauty! Smaller chunks, but no less colorful! The perfect fresh complement to this pale moody blue cabinets. (source)

6. Terrazzo Wall

Stunning, colorful, creative. I could spend hours in here! (source) Which brings me to...

3 Reasons to Love Terrazzo

  1. As you can see, I LOVE the chunkier chips that are used now. There’s so much more color variation, and it's gotten so playful and is used for so many different types of surfaces. Terrazzo is so hip now!!

  2. Terrazzo lasts a looooong time. It’s one of the most durable composites, as the stones are set in concrete, and it can last more than 50 years. (That’s a good investment!)

  3. Beautiful stone is timeless. Lots of beautiful stones? Timeless AND interesting!

If you’re looking for terrazzo, I personally love Concrete Collaborative — they have awesome tile and slabs.

Or, if you’re looking for a whole room or home design that includes a terrazzo feature, hit me up! Design is my passion, and I can’t wait to create a space that feels timeless, comfortable, and endlessly interesting for you.

Until next time…
